India has a total of 4,658 engineering colleges offering Bachelor of Technology (BTech) courses in various disciplines. Out of these colleges, there are 500+ top BTech colleges in India including the government and public colleges. The number of students applying for the course has increased significantly in recent years as the scope of BTech is extremely wide, which has to lead to the division of the course into many specializations. 

  • Some of the most popular BTech branches include Civil Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Chemical Engineering among many others. 
  • At present, there are a total of 23 IITs spread all over the country. The list of some of the top colleges in India includes IIT Madras, IIT Mumbai, IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, etc.

  • NIRF has ranked the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras as the best BTech college in India. The institute has been ranked in the first position by NIRF for both 2019 and 2018 as well.
  • IIT Kanpur ranks 4th in the 2020 ranking, an improvement of 1 compared to that in 2019.
  • NIT SURATHKAL has shown the greatest improvement among all the institutes. The institute ranks 13th in the 2020 ranking, an improvement of 8 as compared to that in 2019.
