At the request of students, the University of Mumbai has ordered universities to take the exam online. On Friday, the Joint Director of Higher Education (Mumbai Division) issued a letter to autonomous universities directing them to take the exams in an online computer-based mode.
Mumbai has decided to take exams offline but students strongly oppose this decision. However, the instructions of the joint university director are not binding.
According to media reports, city universities like Mithibai, St.Xavier's, Jai Hind, NM and Sophia have announced plans to conduct offline exams after 2 years, but this decision is strongly opposed by students of these universities and some of them have asked the minister for higher education to intervene in the matter.
Meanwhile, several students at the outstation have also expressed concern at being unable to obtain temporary housing, with some raising concerns about transportation issues. Earlier, the University of Mumbai announced that it will start the VI exam on April 19, 2022. Semester B Com will hold.
The exam for related courses in trade should take place in the first week of May, likewise the exams for BSC and BA , semester VI should take place on April 21st. However, with the latest announcement, all universities affiliated with the University of Mumbai will now take the exam online.
The University of Mumbai's decision to take exams online came days after students from several universities took to Twitter to raise their concerns about autonomous universities planning to take University of Mumbai exams offline in 2022. “Because the university conducts exams online, there will be different results that will not be checked for usual reasons.
To ensure there is no academic loss for them, we are asking these universities to take exams online," said joint director Sonali Rode. He further said that after students approached him about the offline exam issue, Minister of Higher Education Uday Samant asked him to communicate with those universities.
Meanwhile, the recent order from the University of Mumbai has caused a lot of dissatisfaction among the students, who believe it is unfair treatment as they may receive lower grades, leading to denial.
