AICTE introduces on-line and distance learning courses for students

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is taking some steps to enhance the quality of technical education. It has not only introduced unique courses but also adopted certain technological advances. Dr Rajendra Kakde, Advisor to Chairman of AICTE Dr Anil Sahastrabudhe explained the changes being introduced by the Apex Body while talking to ‘The Hitavada’. AICTE has recently announced M.Tech Defence Technology course. This will have association with Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO), its has also made some courses on-line and distance learning. There are 24 colleges that have started M.Tech Defence Technology.

 

New Academic calender is out and several entrance tests are to be postponed. The admission process of Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), National Institutes of Technology are postponed as tests are not conducted. The acadmic calender is on display of AICTE website, where everything is crystal clear. Dr Kakde said, “We have made some courses on-line and distance learning on the line of the courses being run by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). MBA, MCA, Artificial Intelligence Data Science, Logistics and Shipping and Travel and Tourism are the five courses which can be opted either on-line or distance learning. State University and State Private University can take the courses. The working professionals can have advantage of distance learning courses.” M Tech in Defence Technology is getting a good response. Some technical institutions in Nagpur have started the course.

 

“It is the vision of our Chairman to come up with newer ideas and introduce courses that would benefit the younger generation. Basically enhancing technical education is our motto,” pointed out Dr Kakde. AICTE has designed the on-line or distance learning courses in such a manner that it don’t need any practical examinations. The colleges which already have these courses will only get the distance learning courses. Last time the courses were allowed to be run by Standalone and Deemed university. This time Central university, State university and state private university can also run them. The intake for these courses can be upto 10,000. As there is a moratorium on opening of technical and pharmacy colleges, no new college is opening in these two sectors. Obviously applications for opening MBA, MCA colleges are flooded.
