UGC directions for colleges about refund of full fees on admission cancellation

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed all the affiliated colleges and universities to issue full fees refund in case any student requests for cancellation of admission or migration.

This provision will be valid for requests received till October 31. It is brought in force especially for academic session 2021-22 in the view of ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

UGC has wrote a letter to all the principals and Vice-chancellors of colleges and universities informing that this provision should be implemented with immediate effect alongwith the admission process.

The letter mentioned that several families have suffered financial hardships due to the pandemic, lockdown and related factors. Thus, Institutes are liable to issue a full fees refund on account of cancellation or migration.

The instructions regarding fees refund were also mentioned in the new set of guidelines released by the commission on July 16 alongwith a revised academic calender for new session 2021-22.

Via this guidelines, the UGC has clarified that entire fee including all additional charges and extra curricular fees should be refunded. Any university or college is not allowed to deduct cancellation charges.

For the cancellation or migration requests received between October 31 to December 31, Processing fee of up to Rs. 1000 can be deducted from the total amount and the rest will be refunded.

The commission has directed all the higher education institutes to compulsorily follow this guidelines for fees refund. Any institute found to disobey the orders will be responsible for strict action against them.

Also, any student or parent can directly report to the UGC in case their college or university denies to refund complete amount of fees or deducts a certain amount due to any reason.
