A competitive examination is an examination where candidates are ranked according to their grades and/or percentile and then top rankers are selected . ... Types are civil service examinations, required for positions in the public sector.
There are many, and the course also have relaxation so you won't feel bounded to particular sector too (as if you wanna go in banking after engineering you're most welcome, through ibps, SBI.
Following are options :
1. GATE : appearing in will help you to secure job in maharatnas and navratnas companies like BPCL, IOCL, ONGC, NTPC, BHEL etc. These are some of dream companies to work with in india. ( These companies provide handsome salaries like government and too many perks like government companies and job security) and also you won't become lazy as what happens while working in government sector , you'll always have self respect and value for you job
2.PSU: many companies like vizag steel, and CIL(BCCL) recruit through their own competitive exams, (salary is nice and nice perks and job security)
3: RRB: railway is largest employer of the india, they recruit through their own exam they don't recruit every year but they recruit big mass its a nice option
4: SSC JE: SSC je recruit as junior engineer every year salary is a bit low when compared to psu but you'll get all government perk and job security
5 UPSC(IES): you can sit for ies exam, it happens in two phase pre and mains, its very prestigious exam and after concquring this exam you'll secure ending very nice government engineer, where you'll get job of your choice ( work satisfaction plus administrative power under your work)
6 ISRO/BARC:- these two institutions are government backed, you'll get total technical field to work with, if anyone is interested in research works must opt for these (who knows, you might be next KALAM ), these institutions organise their own exams, plus BARC recruit through GATE too, Generally they took exams twice a year. Payment is lower than psu, perks are less too, but working with these institutions is matter of pride.
7 PRIVATE SECTOR: Private companies also recruit masses, companies like tata, mahindra reliance are some of great companies to work with, you can upload your cv on carrer section of their website pass the interview, and secure the job.
