College university reopening , Decision On College Reopening dates in offline mode   –  Higher Education Minister Uday Samant

As per the latest update, the Maharashtra state government is expected to take a final decision about reopening of colleges in the state by January-end. Higher Education Minister Uday Samant confirmed this development during a meeting with college principals and other stakeholders.

During the meeting he also added that currently,  the higher education department officials have been asked to take feedback and COVID-19 situation review from officials deputed at District and Zilla Parishad levels.

higher and technical education minister Uday Samant said the state government will take a decision by January-end about reopening colleges with 50 per cent capacity. The department will take stock of the COVID-19 situation from district and ZP ocials and take feedback on the condition of colleges and hostels in the state, which were used as quarantine centres, in 10 days. However, the decision will be made known after consulting the CM, said the minister.

Samant made the statement during a meeting with college principals and other stakeholders. He was speaking on a live social medial platform. The minister also assured of initiating the recruitment procedure for several vacant posts of teaching staff at state-run and state-aided colleges. The ministry has initiated a review of the current status of colleges, availability of students, non-teaching staff and hostels, he said.

Schools and colleges have remained shut since March, 2020 in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Some schools and junior colleges were reopened for Classes 9 to 12 in parts of the state earlier this month. Meanwhile, Samant said a 12-member committee has been set up under the chairmanship of noted musician Hridaynath Mangeshkar to draft a proposal for an international-standard music college in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, on complaints from law and polytechnic aspirants about technical issues in online admissions, Samant said the dates would be extended. The department approved around 260 teaching posts in colleges and some more in universities.

However, the decision will be made known after consulting the CM, said the minister. Samant made the statement during a meeting with college principals and other stakeholders. He was speaking on a live social medial platform

Mr Samant also added that while in-principals the preparations are underway for reopening of colleges in the state, the final decision about the same would be taken only after consulting Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackarey.

As part of the preparatory process, officials have also been instructed to review the condition of colleges and schools that were being used as quarantine centres in the next 10 days and submit a detailed report to the department
