Colleges, institutes In Maharashtra To Reopen : Higher Education Minister Uday Samant

Hon Uday Samant, who is the state minister for higher and technical education, made the statement during a meeting with college principals and other stakeholders.

Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant today announced that the decision to start colleges under state universities in the presence of 50 per cent students would be taken up with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray by January 20. He interacted with students, principals, professors on his Facebook page to discuss faculty recruitment, college questions, barriers to admission process and other topics.

He said the decision to start colleges with 50 per cent attendance would be taken after reviewing the university dormitories, local conditions. He clarified that the decision to fill other constitutional vacancies and assistant professor posts in the university would be taken soon as per the approval given to the principal recruitment.

On this occasion, Uday Samant said that it has been decided to set up a 12-member committee under the chairmanship of senior musician Hridaynath Mangeshkar to set up an international standard music college in Mumbai.

 

Samant said that all the courses of technical education have been extended till January 15. He said that the deadline for admission has been extended for another two days on Monday and Tuesday.

 

He said that Yashwantrao Chavan Open University has decided to set up centers at district level, in foreign and border areas. Discussions and efforts are underway in this regard. A state-of-the-art data center has been set up at Gondwana University. He said the decision was taken to set up a model college in a remote area like Gadchiroli.

Schools and colleges have remained shut since March, 2020 in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Some schools and junior colleges were reopened for Classes 9 to 12 in parts of the state earlier this month.
